Sturdy once assembledThe stairs were easy enough to assemble. They are strong enough that I can walk up and down them without concern (170 lbs). I love the dark reddish-brown color of the wood. The carpet stays perfectly in place on the steps and the stairs do not move from where we put it. Our 14 lb mini-Schnauzer can use it. However, she doesn't like the stairs and will only use them if she really wants on the bed and we refuse to pick her up. I think it is because the carpet is only on top of the steps and not on the edge or vertical wall of the steps. It might not feel good if her feet hit the wall or her leg hits the edge on the way up. By comparison, she has not problem climbing the completely carpet covered stairs for getting to the second story of our house. We tried the soft pet stairs that are foam instead of wood and those are too squishy and move to much as she tries to ascend so she hates those stairs even more. If you are willing to custom attach carpet so the steps are 100% covered, that would be best.I read many reviews for pet steps - like many people it’s hard to find for bigger dogs sturdy stable steps - I bought these for they are wood and not slanted . Too expensive for what they are - I did buy proper wood glue instead of using the glue supplied . They are great ! Sturdy I just can’t get my dogs to use them . Very easy to assemble .They do take up a lot of space next to bed So they are moved around a bit . . Got the stairs earlier then planned . These steps are sturdy I used gorilla wood glueGreat itemWe are very pleased with our decorative pet steps made by PetSafe. Our eldest dog is 15 and needs to help getting on the bed. We had been using a 2-step stepstool from Ikea, but she was starting to struggle getting up that and I started to consider options on Amazon. The decorative steps looked nice but were more expensive that some of the other steps. My wife reasoned that we have 3 other dogs that are also growing older and we might as well get something that would not only work better but also look nicer. Since our bedroom furniture has cherry finish, we hoped the that cherry finished steps would go well in the room. They did.I was able to assemble the steps pretty quickly. I was impressed that the steps were made from high-quality plywood with no voids and solid wood pieces, rather than particle board. This allowed the use of dowels and biscuits, as well as cam-locks in joining the pieces together. When assembling the sides, back and risers I was tempted to use glue with the 30 dowels for those joints but figured I could take it apart and add glue later if necessary for stability. The instruction called for glue with the biscuits that join the step treads to the sides, but as I wanted to see how the older dog reacted to the new steps, I just pushed the treads into place as located by the unglued biscuits. My wife came home about then and promptly climbed up the steps to test them out. “Very solid and stable” was her assessment. I added glue to the biscuits the next day, just to be safe.The decorative pet steps are very nice looking, well-built and a good investment in the wellbeing of our furry friends.I have 3 Shih Tzus and all were afraid of our previous steps. After a little training to get them over their fear of any steps, they starting using this to go up and down and they use it all the time now. The steps are sturdy, depth of each step is large, and the edges or corners are rounded and safe. The steps are excellent. I only gave it 4 stars because it is expensive and the assembly is not easy. The instructions are poor, but if you take your time and think carefully about each step, you should be able to assemble everything. Use a rubber mallet for the cam-lock fasteners and wood dowels. If you are not good at putting things together, get someone who is to do it for you. Again, the steps themselves are really, really nice and worth the money.Looks way better than a plastic one next to my nice furnitureI have purchased pet stairs from many makers & these stairs are by far the best! The distance between each step isn't too much for my 12" beagle. The depth of each step is perfect! When he comes back down he doesn't slip or trip because the steps are too close or steep per say. The total height of the stairs is perfect for a tall bed yet a bit taller than a most couches or recliners. Extremely sturdy. This is my second set of these stairs & wish I would have ordered them from the start rather than wasting time on other brands and even ramps just to save a few dollars. Spend a little extra on these stairs, it will save you time & money in the end and you will not be disappointed!Our Shuz Zhu Poozle who is 13.5 years old is using this now as she kept falling off the bed when she jumps up. It blends in at the foot of our bed and looks like a piece of furniture. Great for peace of mind!A little small for my 86 lbs German Sheppard mix but it matches the bedroom furniture.Some assembly, but very sturdy.
